Biography
As a television executive and film producer, Jennifer Alward helped introduce American audiences to SCTV, moderated censorship issues for such legendary television programs as All in the Family, and, through her Morgan Creek production company, brought animal activist Dian Fossey's fascinating story to the screen in Gorillas in the Mist. A California native who graduated from Cal State Long Beach, Alward began her career as a press coordinator for Filmex, the Los Angeles International Film Expo. Later moving to the Standards and Practices office of CBS in New York, Alward subsequently relocated to L.A. to work as a programmer. In features, Alward served as producer of such films as Thompson's Last Run (1986) and Hearts of Fire (1987), and such made-for-television efforts as Black and Blue (1999) and A Mother's Fight for Justice (2001). On September 18, 2002, Jennifer Alward died of diabetes and heart disease complication in her Los Angeles home. She was 53. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
