Biography

Jazz musician Jeremy Davenport is a trumpeter/vocalist in the tradition of Louis Armstrong, Bunny Berigan, and Chet Baker. Born to musician parents in 1970, the Saint Louis, MO, native received a scholarship to study at the Manhattan School of Music during which time he also studied with trumpeter Wynton Marsalis. Eventually Davenport moved his studies to the University of New Orleans and landed a seat in the trumpet section of pianist/vocalist Harry Connick, Jr.'s big band in the early '90s. Inspired by Connick, Davenport began focusing more on his singing and ultimately released two solo studio albums on Telarc in the late '90s: Jeremy Davenport and Maybe in a Dream. A live performance of his quartet featured on National Public Radio's Jazzset was also released as Live at the Bistro on AAM Recordings in 2005. Since the late '90s, Davenport has lived in New Orleans, performing regularly at the French Quarter bar in the Ritz-Carlton hotel. ~ Matt Collar, All Music Guide
