Biography

A minor comedian with Hal Roach in the 1920s, New York-born Jerry Mandy played the Limburger soldier in Behind the Front (1926) and supported the likes of Laurel and Hardy and James Finlayson. Sound film revealed his aptitude for dialects and Mandy spent the next decade and a half playing Italian or French cooks, chefs, and maîtres d'hôtel. He died of a heart attack in his Hollywood home in 1945. ~ Hans J. Wollstein, All Movie Guide
