Sutta was born in Miami, Florida, of Irish Catholic and Russian-Polish Jewish heritage.[1][2] She grew up with two older brothers, Billy and Kevin. She started dance classes at the age of three. She went to the New World School of the Arts at age fourteen to study dance. She tore the ACL on both knees and switched to theater studies, before finally returning to dance. She joined the NBA's cheerleading squad Miami Heat in 1999 and became captain in 2001.
Her mother is a Irish Catholic. Her hair was originally black, until she changed her to brunette, but after Bachar's departure, she dyed her hair red. In september 2009 she changed her hair to brunette again.
Sutta plays the woman who was abused by her husband in Ana Johnsson's music video for "Don't Cry for Pain". As a freelance dancer, she appeared in music videos for Will Smith ("Miami"), Baby Bash ("Suga Suga"), Craig David ("Spanish"), Beyonce ("Crazy In Love") and Gloria Estefan ("Don't Let This Moment End"), among others. As an actress, she was featured as a pill-poppin’ Gothic teenager in the drama series "Ocean Ave" shot in South Florida. She has also appeared in the movies From Justin to Kelly and Bully. In 2007, she appeared on an episode of the game show Identity in disguise as a Pussycat Doll.
She came to the attention of choreographer Robin Antin, who cast her with the Pussycat Dolls in 2002. "She’s sweet, always positive, and very sensitive," says Antin, "but on stage she turns it on".[3] With her pale skin and dark hair, Sutta’s persona echoes a Betty Page pin-up. [4] Jessica sang co-lead along with Carmit Bachar and Ashley Roberts in the "Stickwitu" single b-side, "Santa Baby". After the departure of Bachar from the group, Sutta took the parts that Bachar used to sing, and co-leads with Melody. Sutta also recorded a solo song, "If I Was A Man", for the Deluxe Edition of the Dolls' second studio album Doll Domination. The song is produced by Smidi, Ron Fair, and Stefanie Ridel. In the Pussycat Dolls Doll Domination 2009 revision album Sutta sang lead vocals on Top of the World, Love The Way You Love Me and Painted Windows. [5] In recent Pussycat Dolls tour most of Bachar's part were given to Sutta, especially in I Don't Need A Man, Beep, Stickwitu and Buttons. [6][7] As with all the other Dolls, Sutta is a salaried employee of Interscope Records.
In late 2009 Jessica Sutta announce on her Twitter account that she has been working on solo song with urban Dutch producer Tearce Keaz who was responsible for Eva Simons hit “Silly Boy”. [8] In January 2010 she confirmed for Starpulse.com she's starting work on an album of solo material. "This year is going to be really busy for me because I'm starting my album so I'm not going to have a lot of time," she said. "I'm writing and I'm working with up and coming producers." The sound should reflect some of the same influences as the Pussycat Dolls music, but more focused to Sutta's own inspirations. "I have a love for dance music so it's going to be dance music, also inspired pop dance music. I would love to do collaborations with DJs like David Guetta or Erick Morillo which is one of my favorite DJs." [9]
Sutta is featured on a track named "Make It Last" with Dave Aude, which was released in May 2007 and reached number one on Billboard magazine 's Hot Dance Club Play charts for September 22, 2007.[10] “Jessica was one of the Pussycat Dolls that didn’t get a lot of the spotlight in the actual Pussycat band, but she just loves club music,” Dave Audé told About.com in an interview. “So I’ve been doing a few songs here and there. I recorded the vocals for her song with Paul Van Dyk’s 'White Lies.' She sang on my song which wasn’t a full vocal song but it had some, it was more of a club track and fortunately went to number one.” [11]
She is also featured on Paul van Dyk's July 2007 single "White Lies". Paul Van Dyk said: "I had a lot of fun working with Jessica. Her lascivious voice and sexy attitude reflects the theme of the single perfectly." "Its crazy how the universe works. We were in Germany on tour and we were just talking about dance music and it came up that Paul was doing this album. Before I knew it,I was guest starring on his album. We only had two hours to record the song and he was very professional. He is so sincere and is one of the nicest people I've ever met.You don't expect someone that's so well known to be so humble." Jessica said about working with Paul Van Dyk. The track has been a success on the American dance charts, peaking at #3 on Billboard's Hot Dance Airplay chart in August 2007, and reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Singles Sales. "White Lies" appeared on the album In Between. [12]
In 2007, Sutta appeared in a series of video ads on Myspace for Unilever's Axe body spray, as part of their 'Bom Chicka Wah Wah' campaign. The ads took the form of instructional dance videos, with Sutta displaying 'sexy' dance moves.[13]
