Biography

Vancouver hard rock group Jet Black Stare were founded in 2007 by Rod Black (vocalist), who started writing songs after becoming frustrated with the creative direction of his former band. After meeting Shane Hayes (bass), Black formed Jet Black Stare (the name was inspired by a photo of Johnny Cash) with Hayes, Flip (guitar), Dave Muselman (guitar), and Dan Swinimer (drums). The group signed with Island and worked with songwriter/producer Jeff Johnson on its debut album, In This Life, which was released in July 2008. ~ Katherine Fulton, All Music Guide

Jet Black Stare is a hard rock[2] band from Vancouver, Canada. Their debut album, 'In This Life', was released in July 2008. Their single off that album, "Ready to Roll", which was used as the theme for SummerSlam 2008, peaked at #29 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock charts.[3]

Jet Black Stare has toured The US and Canada extensively, in opening slots with bands such as 3 Doors Down, Staind, Hinder, Puddle Of Mudd, Shinedown, Drowning Pool, Theory Of A Deadman, Saliva and Seether to name just a few. They recently secured a US West coast tour with Candelbox, starting in mid March / 09. While at a party, frontman Rod Black overdosed and passed out with severe alcohol poisoning. Rod was hurried to the ER where he sat on an operating table and heard the doctors say, "Everyone out of the room, we're gonna lose him." Rod Black was pronounced dead. But shortly thereafter, Rod came back, after the doctors had already given up. "I guess it just wasn't my time," he states.

"Ready to Roll" was used by the Detroit Red Wings as their theme song of the 2009 NHL playoffs, as well as the WWE for their annual Summerslam pay per view in 2008. This same song is also featured in the opening theme of "Bad Movie Beatdown", a series of satiric video reviews of arguably bad movies, since the July 3rd 2009 episode. "Bad Movie Beatdown" is hosted on the website That Guy with the Glasses. [4]
