Game Description

Jet-Boot Jack is an early instance of the single-screen platform action game. In the game the user takes control of Jack, who must collect all of the musical notes on the screen to complete a song. A large number of platforms divide the screen, and access to each platform is obtained through elevators.

The many levels are created by changing the layout of the platforms and adding numerous enemy creatures that can kill the player in a variety of ways. Such items as moving floors and conveyor belts can move the player around to collect the whole musical score, but they can also cause death.

The user is given five lives at the beginning of the game, and a life will be lost if Jack walks off a platform, collides with an enemy, is crushed between an elevator and a platform, strikes his head on a stalactite, or otherwise fails to carefully navigate all of the game's hazards.

Enemies are defeated by stomping on their heads from the platform above. Killing enemies gives the player points, as does completing a level. A life reward system is set up for point gain.

There are six difficulty levels that can be chosen at the beginning of the game. The higher the difficulty, the more enemies abound. One of the difficulty levels is a practice session, which offers a sample level with no bad guys. Other options in the game include the chance to choose between one or two players (they will alternate) and the chance to change the button that causes the player to jump. ~ Ryan Glover, All Game Guide
