Early life

Mandich graduated from Solon High School in Solon, Ohio. While at Solon High Mandich set, and still holds to this day the record for the Shot Put and Discus throw.

Hatred of Nick Saban

Mandich described former Miami Dolphins head coach Nick Saban as "a giant piece of turd," on the NFL Network's program Top Ten Coaches Who Belonged in College and even stated that if Saban walked into the room at that moment he (Mandich) would assault him. This stemmed from Saban's repeated deceptions on whether he would coach the Dolphins, and also to the team's subpar record (15-17) under his coaching tenure. Saban was ripped for it by Mandich and numerous other commentators on the program.
