Jim Murphy is an American award-winning author of more than 30 fiction and non-fiction books for children and young adults, most of which have an historical focus. His most recent books are "A Savage Thunder" (Scholastic, 2009) and "Truce" (Simon & Schuster, 2009). His books have been awarded a Newbery Honor twice: in 2004 for An American Plague: The True and Terrifying Story of the Yellow Fever Epidemic of 1793 and in 1996 for The Great Fire.
Other titles include: the historical novel, Desperate Journey(2006), The Boys' War,, Blizzard, and The Real Benedict Arnold. His books have received many additional award including: both an ALA Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Award as well as an ALA Robert F. Sibert Honor Book Award; National Book Award Finalist Medal; 3 NCTE Orbis Pictus Awards; 3 Jefferson Cup Awards; 2 SCBWI’s Golden Kite Award; and The Washington Post/Children’s Book Guild Award for Distinguished Nonfiction Boston Globe-Horn Book Award.
He is married to writer/editor Alison Blank.
