Jim Wilson is an Academy Award winning film producer. He won the Oscar for Best Picture of 1990 for Dances with Wolves, which he shared with fellow producer Kevin Costner.

Career

Producing

Wilson started producing in 1986, when he produced the comedy film Smart Alec. In 1990, he produced Dances With Wolves along with Kevin Costner (who also directed the film). It was written by Micheal Blake, based on his novel. It was the highest grossing western film of all times and won 7 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Sound, Best Score, and Best Film Editing.

After the success of Dances With Wolves, Wilson started producing box office disappointments such as The Bodyguard in 1992 and Rapa Nui and Wyatt Earp in 1994. In 1995, he produced the mini-series 500 Nations. In 1996, 1997 and 1999, wilson produced the films Head Above Water, The Postman and Message in a Bottle.

In the year of 2006 he produced the films Laffit: All About Winning and Whirlygirl and in 2007, the film Mr. Brooks He is currently waiting for his last project to date to be release August 1, 2008 Swing Vote.

Directing

Wilson started directing in 1983 with the film Stacy's Knights. After that film, he directed the film Smart Alec. Wilson stopped directing and started to concentrate more on producing, until 1996 when he directed the film Head Above Water, which he also produced. Ten years later, he directed the two film which he also produced Laffit: All About Winning and Whilygirl. Since the year 2006, he stopped directing.
