Jimbo Kern is a recurring character in the animated series South Park. He is Randy Marsh's half brother [1]. He is voiced by Matt Stone.

Hunting

Jimbo is best known for his hunting as shown in many of his episodes. Because of a law saying that one could not shoot an animal unless as a form of self-defense, he would proceed to shoot after uttering his tagline: "It's coming right at us!"

In the episode The Mexican Staring Frog of Southern Sri Lanka it was revealed on Jimbo's TV show "Hunting and Killing" that hunters could not use his catchphrase anymore. So he started using "We need to kill them to thin out their numbers," referring to the fact that hunters serve to control animal overpopulation.

Jimbo's hunting partner and companion is Ned Gerblansky.

Vietnam

Jimbo was in the Vietnam War, he served as a helicopter pilot. This was the place where he met Ned. In this war Ned accidentally blew his arm off with a grenade. He gave Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny a description about what happened during the war (he told them that there were amusement park rides and that he and Ned beat the entire Vietcong by themselves). Mr. Garrison thought the kids were lying and gave them detention, saying that it was a load of crap but when the boys argued with him he hints that he was in Vietnam. However, when Jimbo had a conversation with a cameraman who also was in Vietnam, they talked about the rides and that a friend of the cameraman would still be alive if he had taken a log ride, which means the story Jimbo told actually happened (aside from he and Ned defeating the Vietcong). Which of these stories is true is debatable.

Huntin' and Killin'

Huntin' and Killin' is the name of Jimbo and Ned's TV show on South Park Public Access where it shows footage of them hunting. It was first seen in The Mexican Staring Frog of Southern Sri Lanka in which they were in a ratings war against the other public access show Jesus and Pals.

The show only pulled around two dozen viewers beating Jesus and Pals by about two viewers. Since the episode it was shown in it hasn't been seen since. You can however hear the show on Cartman's TV in episode Hooked on Monkey Phonics. If you listen closely you can hear that it's the same 'episode' of the show from the Mexican Staring frog of Southern Sri Lanka.

It is most likely rated TV-14.

Episodes in which Jimbo is prominent

  • Volcano - Takes the boys camping up in the mountains. (Ned is very prominent in this episode)
  • Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride - Convinces everyone to bet on the South Park team in the football tournament because of Stan. (Ned and Jimbo sabotage the North Park mascot)
  • Weight Gain 4000 - Sells Mr. Garrison a gun, this is actually the first episode Jimbo appeared in, but Volcano was broadcast first.
  • Summer Sucks - Jimbo and Ned try to buy fireworks in Mexico after they are banned in South Park.
  • Cow Days - Tries to find out who stole the huge cow clock on "Cow Day".
  • Chef Goes Nanners - Tries to keep the South Park flag the way it is. (Ned is with him when they hunt down the Ku-Klux-Klan)

Notes

  • In the episode "It Hits the Fan" it is hinted that Jimbo is a homosexual. Also in the episode "South Park is Gay!", Mr. Garrison comments on how people are dressed in the bar and says to Jimbo, "Those shoes say you take it in the butt!". However, in the episode "Goobacks" (an episode that was made after "It Hits the Fan") Jimbo refuses to join the 'gay pile', which could imply that he is in denial about his sexuality. Jimbo may be a bisexual as hinted in "Scott Tenorman Must Die", when Jimbo seemed to be attracted to Mrs. Tenorman's breasts (made before "It hits the fan", aired after). It is also hinted that Jimbo is bisexual in Cartman's Mom is Still a Dirty Slut when he is the only man in the front row of people not to barf after learning Mrs.Cartman is a Hermaphrodite, he does cover his mouth though. So what Jimbo is exactly about (he has apparently never been married, and his only companion is Ned) is something that cannot be assumed. However prior to It Hits the Fan in the first season episode "Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride", when Stan played an important part in the school's football game, he made a speech saying that being gay is okay after going to Big Gay Al's. Much of the spectators disagreed, and Jimbo, shouting at Stan, also disagreed.
  • Jimbo is often shown carrying a rifle. This strongly resembles an M16 with a scope on the carrying handle.
  • In South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut and in The Red Badge of Gayness it is revealed that Jimbo is known for his guerrilla tactics.
  • Coincidentally, there are two characters named Jimbo and Kearney on The Simpsons, a show that South Park has parodied and lampooned several times.
  • Jimbo was given a completely updated look in the episode Night of the Living Homeless, his jacket was shaded around the edges of the pockets and looked much better than it did before.
  • In the episode South Park Is Gay Jimbo shaved his head. It's hard to tell if his hair grew back in Season 8 onwards.
