TV Series:

Jimmy Dale Alias the Grey Seal

  • Release Year: 1917

Plot

The stolid E.K. Lincoln starred in this action serial released in 16 chapters by the Monmouth Film Company about a crime fighter using three different aliases: "the Grey Seal," a safe-cracker, "Larry the Bat," an underworld kingpin, and "Smarlinghue," a counterfeiter. Jimmy Dale is aided in his quest to root out crime by the Woman in Black (Edna Hunter). The serial, which was dismissed by reviewers and audiences alike, became the target of a lawsuit when the Unicorn Film Service sued the producers for breach of contract, Ike Schlank of Unicorn arguing that his company had been awarded all distribution rights. The verdict sided with the defendant, however, and Monmouth went on to release Jimmy Dale through the Mutual exchanges. ~ Hans J. Wollstein, All Movie Guide
