Jive Software is a Portland, Oregon-based software company that was founded in 2001. It is an enterprise social-networking vendor.
Jive's products are collaboration and knowledge management tools, including Clearspace and its successor Social Business Software 3.0, which combine collaboration software, community software, and popular social applications.
SBS 3.0 was announced in early March 2009. It was a directional shift for the company, creating what they called the first purpose-built, enterprise-class, Social Business Software application suite. What they did was say goodbye to Clearspace and Clearspace Community brands and rebrand all the functionality under one roof, calling it SBS 3.0. This integration adds advanced cloud-based data analytics and reporting to the SBS suite. It provides customers of Jive's SBS 3.0 suite, in-depth analytics and reporting capabilities without dealing with issues like data management and infrastructure for a similar in-house solution.
In June 2009, SAP and Jive at the Enterprise 2.0 conference in Boston that they have formed an agreement that will see SAP's BusinessObjects BI OnDemand software integrated with Jive's community and collaboration platform. In a demonstration, the vendors showed how an administrator could use the BI capabilities for broad analyses, such as how many users are posting content to a company's community site.
The company has a work hard/play hard ethic; Matt Tucker, Jive’s chief technology officer and co-founder, said spending money on free soda and Red Bull energy drinks for his employees, and delivered dinners for software developers who work late, is how he retains his most valuable employees.
“The snacks and soda work out to be less per year than the cost of one employee", said Tucker. “It might be the easiest thing to cut from a budget, but is it really the best? For us, that’s a minor investment, but it does make it a more enjoyable place to work. It’s important to be cost conscious without destroying a company’s culture.”
