Standing as a symbolic monument to cynics who think any Joe capable of twirling knobs or pushing buttons can be a recording engineer is a number of recording credits that are attributed simply and succinctly to Joe, either by modest design or as the result of a wandering surname. Joe can apparently produce on his own, or be a backseat Joe and pitch in as a mixing or engineering assistant. There are also credits for Joe as an editor, although none with the importance of the editor who won the Oscar for the film entitled Joe.
