Johann Andreas Eisenbart

German Literature Companion: Johann Andreas Eisenbart

Eisenbart, Johann Andreas, also Eysenbart (Viechtach, 1661-1727, Hannoversch-Münden), has become the proverbial quack. His grotesque and crass methods of publicity were responsible for this reputation. Dr Eisenbart was in reality one of the most skilful physicians of his day and was honoured by the king of Prussia for his talents and services. He is the subject of a novel (Doktor Eisenbart, 1929) by J. Winckler.
