Spalding, Johann Joachim (Tribsee, Pomerania, 1714-1804, Berlin), at first a pastor in Pomerania, became a member of the Berlin Consistory in 1764. He wrote widely read books of popular edification (Über die Bestimmung des Menschen, 1748; Gedanken über den Wert der Gefühle im Christentum, 1761), and was also a popular and effective preacher. His autobiography (Lebensbeschreibung, von ihm selbst aufgesetzt, 1804) was published by his son.
