Archenholz, Johann Wilhelm von (Langfuhr, Danzig, 1743-1812, Hamburg), a German historian, was first an officer, serving in the later campaigns of the Seven Years War (see Siebenjähriger Krieg), sustaining wounds and retiring in 1763 as a captain. After travelling extensively in Europe, Archenholz settled in 1780 in Magdeburg where he set up as a publicist, founding the periodical Litteratur- und Völkerkunde, which ran from 1782 to 1791. He became known as a historian through the 20 vols. of Annalen der britischen Geschichte (1789-98) and his Geschichte des siebenjährigen Krieges (1787). From 1792 until his death he lived near Hamburg, editing the learned journal Minerva.

Johann Wilhelm Archenholz (1741–1812), born in Langfuhr (Wrzeszcz) near Danzig (Gdańsk), was a Prussian[1][2][3][4][5] Professor of History and a publicist. His book about the history of the Seven Years of Silesian War (1756-63) was the basis for many reprints, as well as for school books.
