Biography

Bassist and vocalist John Anderson was a member of the London-based group Charlie, and is sometimes confused with a slightly older American studio bassist who plays on early records by the Fugs. Charlie, a band perhaps best remembered for placing good-looking ladies on album covers, also featured guitarist Terry Thomas--of no relation to the British comedy actor who likes to show his teeth--and a variety of supporting players including keyboardist Julian Colbeck, guitarist Martin Smith and drummers Shep Lonsdale and Steve Gadd. Anderson co-produced the band's 1977 album entitled No Second Chance. The group's biggest success was the 1983 hit "It's Inevitable". By 1984, Anderson bid a fond farewell to Charlie. As for other bands, he also played his axe in Axe prior to the Charlie experience. Anderson eventually dropped out of music and went to work in the telecommunication industry. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide
