John Casablancas (born December 12, 1942) is an American entrepreneur who founded Elite Model Management; a modeling agency representing numerous supermodels and superstars, in Paris, France, in 1972. He also founded the world's largest modeling and acting school, the John Casablancas Modeling and Career Centers in 1979.
He was born in Manhattan, New York, to Catalonian parents from Sabadell, Spain, and grew up in the United States, Mexico, and various countries throughout Europe. His father, Ferran Casablancas was a textile merchant. He was educated mainly in Switzerland. He studied at Institut Le Rosey. Casablancas is the father of The Strokes singer Julian Casablancas[1] jewelry designer Cecile Casablancas, John Casablancas Jr., Fernando Casablancas, and Nina Casablancas.
Casablancas worked in a variety of jobs including managing the marketing division of Coca-Cola in the northeastern part of Brazil. He opened his first modeling agency in Paris, France, and two years later created Elite Model Management[2]
He heads the John Casablancas Modeling and Career Centers, a modeling and acting school[3] which has franchises in Colombia, Bolivia, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Italy, and Indonesia, as well as in the United States and Canada — in Florida, New York, British Columbia , Georgia, New Mexico, Washington, Pennsylvania, Ohio, California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Tennessee, North Carolina, Arizona and Illinois.
