Biography

A British composer of melancholy songs, lute music, and sacred and secular vocal music. Dowland was one of the greatest and most insightful songwriters who ever lived. His instrumental works demonstrate a mastery of contrapuntal complexity and a feeling for rhythmic liveliness. His famous "Lachrimae," (or Seaven Teares,) was also acclaimed in literary circles. ~ Blue Gene Tyranny, All Music Guide
