Biography

Scottish character actor John Fraser was still a high school student when he made his first professional stage appearance. A natural for youthful military roles, Fraser was seen to good advantage in such wartime films as The Dam Busters (1953) and Tunes of Glory (1960). One of his best and most atypical performances was as the tragic Lord Alfred Douglas in 1960's The Trial of Oscar Wilde. John Fraser's TV credits include an appearance as the Monitor on the "Logopolis" story arc of Doctor Who (1981), and as one of the regulars of the 1982 British series The Rep. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

John Fraser (born Glasgow 18 March 1931) is a BAFTA-nominated Scottish-born actor of cinema, television and theatre.

One of his earliest roles was as Inigo Jollifant in the second film version of J.B. Priestley's The Good Companions. He went on to have starring roles in films such as El Cid, The Trials of Oscar Wilde (playing Lord Alfred Douglas), and Roman Polanski's Repulsion. He is familiar on television, with guest roles in series including Danger Man (1964), Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) (1969), Columbo (1972), Doctor Who (1981) and The Bill (1995).

In 2004, he published his autobiography, Close Up, in which he writes frankly about his gay life and friendships with well known actors.[1]

Dirk's life with Forwood had been so respectable, their love for each other so profound and so enduring, it would have been a glorious day for the pursuit of understanding and the promotion of tolerance if he had screwed up the courage ... to make one dignified allusion to his true nature. Self-love is no substitute for self-respect.
