| 1933 | Brothers Three. The best work by one of the earliest Native American novelists is set in the Oklahoma Territory after the turn of the century and features major Indian characters for the first time in his fiction. Oskison was born in Oklahoma to a part-Cherokee mother and a white father. His short story "Only the Master Shall Praise" won a prize in 1899 from Century magazine, and it led to his work appearing in newspapers and magazines. |
