John Palfrey (born 1972) is the faculty co-director of the Berkman Center for Internet & Society, vice dean for library and information resources, and a tenured professor, namely the Henry N. Ess III Professor of Law at Harvard Law School.[1] He is a principal investigator on the Open Net Initiative, a collaboration between Harvard and the University of Toronto and the University of Cambridge that studies the Internet filtering of countries such as China, Iran, and Singapore, among many others. He is co-author of two books, Access Denied (MIT Press, 2008) and Born Digital (Basic Books, 2008).
Palfrey served as a Visiting Professor of Law and Information at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland, in 2007 - 2008.
He is a graduate of Harvard College (A.B. 1994), Pembroke College, Cambridge (M.Phil. 1997) as a Rotary Scholar, and Harvard Law School (J.D. 2001).[2][3] His parents, also professors, are the co-masters of Adams House at Harvard College.[4]
In February, 2008, he started the DRAFT LESSIG movement to encourage law professor Lawrence Lessig to run for the United States Congress.[5][6]
