Biography

After working as an apprentice to William Godbid for several years, John Playford (the younger), a printer, was invited into a publishing partnership by the former man's widow, Anne, following his death. Playford had also gained experience in the publishing field while working with his uncle John Playford (the elder) at his business in the Temple Church, London. Eventually Playford obtained possession of the Godbid business in 1682 and printed his cousin Henry's musical publications. At his death the company was imparted to his sister Eleanor. ~ Meredith Gailey, All Music Guide
