John S. Allen

John Stuart Allen was the first President of the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. Dr. Allen came to the University of South Florida from the University of Florida, where he served as interim President from 1953 to 1955 following the unexpected death of President J. Hillis Miller, Sr. Dr. Allen was the President from the University's inception in 1957 to 1970, when he elected to retire. Dr. Allen played a pivotal role in the creation of the University. The John and Grace Allen Center was named after President John and his wife.
