John M. Wimer (May 8, 1810 – January 11, 1863) was the seventh person to serve as mayor of St. Louis, Missouri.

Born in Amherst County, Virginia, he came west in 1828, initially a blacksmith in St. Louis.

He served from 1843 to 1844 and from 1857 to 1858 - the ninth and nineteenth term served as mayor of St. Louis.

When the Civil War broke out, Wimer spoke out strongly for the Confederacy and his native state of Virginia; he was arrested and imprisoned, but escaped in December 1862, travelling to Missouri where he joined the Confederate army under general Emmet McDonald.

He was killed in battle at Hartsville, Missouri.
