Windele, John (1801-1865), scholar and antiquarian. Born in Cork, he was one of a group of literary men who cultivated an interest in folklore and antiquities. With J. J. Callanan and Thomas Crofton Croker he formed a group called the Anchorites. His collection of ogam stones are now kept at UCC. During 1826-30 he edited Bolster's Quarterly Magazine. His topographical interests are reflected in Historical and Descriptive Notes of the City of Cork (1839).
