Lavelli, Jorge (b. 1932). Argentinian-born theatre director who came to prominence in the 1960s with baroque productions of plays by Gombrowitz, Copi, and Arrabal. His ritual productions, influenced by Artaud, are characterized by rhythm, musicality, and precise geometrical movements. His later experimental work in opera made him, together with Chéreau, one of the leading renovators of the genre.
