Biography

If Jubilee sound like Love and Rockets meets Nine Inch Nails with a little Black Rebel Motorcycle Club mixed in, there's good reason. The Los Angeles-based group has recorded with members of all the above thanks to co-founders Aaron North and Michael Shuman, and their large circle of alt-rock friends. North had played with Nine Inch Nails while Shuman was a member of Queens of the Stone Age plus the band Wires on Fire, where he had played alongside future Jubilee guitarist Jeff Lynn. A hard time finding a permanent drummer led to recordings with BRMC's Nick Jago and NIN's Trent Reznor on drum machine, and then the Willowz's Loren Shane Humphrey became an official member but was soon replaced by the Icarus Line's Troy Petrey. After being signed to North's own Buddyhead imprint, the band participated in the label's innovative style of online music distribution. A subscription service was offered where the customer would receive digital downloads of all Jubilee's 2008 recordings beginning with the "Rebel Hiss" single, released in January of that year. It was also announced the group's coming debut album would feature Petrey plus various guest drummers including the Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl, Bauhaus' Kevin Haskins, and Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide

Jubilee is an Indie rock band from Los Angeles, California, which formed in late 2007. The band consists of Aaron North (Nine Inch Nails, The Icarus Line) on vocals and guitar, Tony Bevilacqua (Spinnerette, The Distillers) on guitar and vocals, Jenni Tarma (Kylie Minogue, Har Mar Superstar) on bass, and Troy "Boy" Petrey (The Icarus Line, Willowbrook) on drums.

According to their press release, Jubilee's sound is "something like The Replacements, The Stone Roses, Neil Young, Blur, Jane's Addiction, Bob Dylan, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and The Verve, all sliced ‘n diced together quite nicely."[1]

Jubilee has released two singles via North's Buddyhead Records. They released the “Rebel Hiss” single on January 21, 2008 on 7 inch Vinyl, CD, and a limited edition tour 7 inch vinyl.[2] Their second single, "In With The Out Crowd", was released in Fall 2008 on 7 inch Vinyl, and CD.

On a recent post on Buddyhead, it was announced that Jubilee would distribute a digital version of their single for US$3.00US in MP3, WAV and FLAC formats. North also announced that individuals would be able to subscribe to the "2008 Jubilee Digital Music Service" for US $19.95, which would entitle the individual to Jubilee's entire output for 2008, tentatively being "the “Rebel Hiss” single, at least 2 more upcoming album singles also containing exclusive non-album tracks, the full-length debut album, exclusive live tracks, music videos, live videos, photos, lyrics, artwork, etc." and an "exclusive 7-inch single ONLY available to subscribers". It will also allow subscribers the chance to obtain "super limited pressings of Jubilee vinyl (including rare first pressings and even test presses)" and to access every release "before anybody else will". [3]

This release and distribution method closely follows and expands upon efforts made by Radiohead, Saul Williams, and the Nine Inch Nails on the release of their albums In Rainbows, The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust! (Which Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails Produced), Ghosts I-IV, and The Slip respectively.
