Judith

Judith, a Middle High German biblical poem dated 1254 in the MS. but possibly written in 1304. It is probably the work of a brother of the Teutonic Order (see Deutscher Orden), to which the story of Judith's heroic deed against the military might of the heathen was particularly appropriate and even topical. The MS. was found at Mergentheim, headquarters of the Order from 1526.
