Jugend, a Naturalistic play by M. Halbe, published in 1893, and performed with immense success in the same year. It tells of two young lovers Hans Hartwig and Anna. Anna is shot dead by her jealous stepbrother Amandus. The play is set in the West Prussian countryside in which Halbe grew up. The periodical and the designation Jugendstil derive from the play's title.
