Julia Domna

Wife of the Emperor Septimius Severus and a Syrian by origin, Julia Domna was a woman of great character and personality who wielded considerable political authority during both her husband's reign and that of her son, Caracalla. In statuary Julia Domna is often represented as Ceres. She is known to have taken a great interest in eastern religions.
