(b London, 1967). Eng. composer. Studied at RCM with John Lambert, privately in Paris with Tristan Murail, and at Cambridge with Alexander Goehr. Advice and guidance from Oliver Knussen. Britten Memorial Fellow, Tanglewood 1993. Head of comp., RCM 2000–4, comp.‐in‐assoc., CBSO 2001–4, prof. of comp., Harvard Univ. from 2005, GSMD from 2007. Works incl.:
