JBR

Jumeirah Beach Residence (also known as JBR) is a 1.7 kilometre (1.06 mile) long, 2 million square metre (22 million square foot) gross floor area waterfront community located against the Persian Gulf in Dubai Marina in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is the largest single phase residential development in the world and contains 40 towers (36 are residential and 4 are hotels) . JBR's capacity is about 10.000 people living in its apartments and hotel rooms.

The developer, Dubai Properties (a subsidiary of Dubai Holding), launched JBR in August 2002. This 6 billion dirham project was completed in 2007.

The development has been affected by some controversy. Owners of apartments have claimed delays in handover, poor workmanship and failure to deliver on development promises (which included the abandoned development of an exclusive beach park and gymnasiums for residents). Disgruntled owners of apartments were also recently levied, retrospectively, with a more than doubled service/maintenance fee amid failure to deliver on basic building maintenance services and facilities.

Notwithstanding these issues, which are common to Dubai residential developments, JBR is a cosmopolitan and generally desirable residential precinct in Dubai. "The JBR Walk" restaurant and shopping strip, which is adjacent to the beach behind JBR, is a very popular location for Al Fresco dining.
