jumper's heel

Food and Fitness: jumper's heel

An injury to the heel that causes pain between the Achilles tendon and the back of the ankle bone. It is commonly associated with explosive jumping, stamping down, blocking the foot as a ball is kicked, or any other action that compresses the fat pad between the heel bone and shin bone. If an os trigonum (an extra bone in the ankle) is present, the compression may press the bone against a nerve resulting in considerable pain.
