Biography

Formed in 1995, Chicago's Jungle Rot is a living anachronism in the new millennium thanks to their retro-death rock style. Steeped in the relatively straightforward, yet viciously corrosive grooves perpetrated by early- '90s bands like Sodom, Unleashed, and Bolt Thrower, the group issued their "Skin the Living" demo in 1995, but only made their official debut with 1998's Slaughter the Weak album, on Pavement Music. Extensive touring ensued and Olympic Recordings signed the quartet -- featuring Dave Matrise (vocals/guitar), Chris Djuricic (guitar), Jerry Sturino (bass), and Eric House (drums) -- prior to 2001's Dead & Buried and 2004's Fueled by Hate albums. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide

History

Jungle Rot was founded in 1994. After their first two demos, the band gets an American independent label by Pure Death Records, where they released their first album in 1996. Next year was the second album released, by Pulverizer Records, which was next year released again by Pavement Records. The EP "Darkness Fortold" was released by the small label S.O.D., which is controlled by the creator of the underground-music magazine "Sounds of Death". The next two albums were released by Olympic Recordings. Since 2005 the band hasn't any pact with a label, so the last album "Warzone" was released by themselves and sold over Crash Music, an American market. In 2008 they headlined a European tour with support from Warmaster, Downswitch and Walking Corpse The band signed with Napalm Records in January 2009 and released WHAT HORRORS AWAIT in June 2009.

Music and texts

The lyric concept of the band is the war and his concomitants. So the name goes back to a military jargon, which arise during the Vietnam War, who relates to an infection of the feet, which appears in the jungle by the wetness of the military boots. (Jungle rot)
