Juvenile osteoporosis

Wikipedia: Juvenile osteoporosis

Juvenile osteoporosis is a rare form of osteoporosis in children and adolescents.

Osteoporosis is rare in children and adolescents. When it occurs, it is usually secondary to some other condition,[1] e.g. eating disorders or arthritis. In some cases, there is no known cause and it is called idiopathic juvenile osteoporosis. Idiopathic juvenile osteoporosis usually goes away spontaneously.[2]

A key differential diagnosis for idiopathic juvenile osteoporosis is osteogenesis imperfecta, which can cause secondary osteoporosis.

Treatment for secondary juvenile osteoporosis focuses on treating the underlying disorder.
