König von Bayern Maximilian II

Maximilian II, König von Bayern (Munich, 1811-64, Munich), son of Ludwig I, succeeded to the throne in 1848 on his father's abdication. He devoted himself principally to encouraging the arts and sciences in Munich. He was succeeded by his son Ludwig II.
