Kahoka is a city in Clark County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,241 at the 2000 census. It
is the county seat of Clark County6. The city was founded in 1857 and is named for the Cahokia tribe of the Illiniwek or Illinois Confederacy. September 21, 2007 is the town's sesquicentennial anniversery.
Geography
Kahoka is located at 40°25′26″N, 91°43′17″W (40.423879,

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area
of 4.0 km² (1.6 mi²). 4.0 km² (1.5 mi²) of it is
land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it (1.92%) is water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there were 2,241 people, 921 households, and 562 families residing in
the city. The population density was 565.5/km² (1,464.0/mi²). There were 1,014
housing units at an average density of 255.9/km² (662.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.48% White, 0.09% African American, 0.40% Native American, 0.04% Asian, 0.13% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.80% of the population.
There were 921 households out of which 30.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.2% were married couples living together, 9.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.9% were
non-families. 35.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or
older. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 3.01.
In the city the population was spread out with 25.3% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 24.1% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from
45 to 64, and 22.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 86.1 males.
For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 78.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $24,384, and the median income for a family was $30,192. Males had a median
income of $24,313 versus $16,563 for females. The per capita income for the city was
$14,928. About 15.4% of families and 17.4% of the population were below the poverty
line, including 21.1% of those under age 18 and 18.8% of those age 65 or over.
