Biography

English darlings KaitO comprise a fun, electronic spunk similar to the likes of Bis and Kenickie. Hailing from Norwich, England, KaitO's Nikki Colk (vocals/guitar), Gemma Cullingford (bass), Dave Lake (guitar), and Dieta Quantrill (drums) were a quick fit to England's underground indie scene. After making a name for themselves over a five-year period and issuing several cult singles, KaitO inked a European deal with Fierce Panda and an American contract with Devil in the Woods in 2001. You've Seen Us... You Must Have Seen Us marked KaitO's proper full-length debut later that summer and gained massive praise in their homeland almost immediately. First single "Cat-Nap" was a mainstay on Steve Lamacq's Evening Session on the BBC as well as the U.K.'s XFM radio while British mags such as Uncut, Sleazenation, and Mojo jumped on board to celebrate KaitO's playful punk sound. Tours with Clinic, the Datsuns, Seafood, and Imperial Teen followed in 2002, coinciding the summer release of the Montigola Underground EP. In early 2003, KaitO left Devil in the Woods for SpinART. Band Red appeared in May. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide

History

The band was formed in 1996 on the English underground scene before signing a European deal with Fierce Panda and an American deal with Devil in the Woods in 2001. They played mostly in England, but also toured the United States on many occasions.

The band's first full-length debut was released in August 2001, entitled You've Seen Us..You Must Have Seen Us. This was quickly followed up with a single, Cat Nap, while British music critics praised KaitO's unique punky sound.

2002 began with tours for the band, most notably with the Datsuns, Seafood and Imperial Teen. An EP was released (Montigola Underground) that summer despite the touring, and KaitO eventually left Devil in the Woods for SpinART in 2003. Their album Band Red was released in May 2003. In 2006, Kaito broke up. Their official website is still hosted by Mute and is located at http://www.mute.biz/kaito/ although the domain name kaito.co.uk has expired.
