The Kalon Tripa is the head of government of the Central Tibetan Administration, a political organization that claims the territory of the Tibetan Autonomous Region in China, but does not administer any territory. It should not be confused with the Chairman of the actual government of the Tibetan Autonomous Region, a post occupied by Qiangba Puncog.
The first Kalon Tripa was Lobsang Tenzin, who was elected[citation needed] in 2001.
