Biography

Boston native Kane Roberts became hooked on music at a young age and would eventually serve stints as guitarist for several high-profile rock acts, most notably Alice Cooper. Influenced by Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin, Roberts was already forming bands in junior high school. After a very brief period attending Boston University, he was accepted at the New England Conservatory of Music, where he studied classical and jazz guitar for two and a half years. In New York, Roberts turned his attention back to rock-playing sessions and formed a band, Criminal Justice. In 1986, Roberts was enlisted to play for Alice Cooper, for whom he had done an opening gig the year before. During the late '80s, Roberts not only toured with Cooper, but co-wrote and arranged tracks for Cooper's Constrictor, Trash, and Raise Your Fist and Yell albums. He also found time to release his self-titled solo debut in 1987. Leaving Cooper's band in 1991 to pursue his solo career, Roberts released Saints & Sinners the same year, scoring a Top 40 hit with the single "Does Anybody Really Fall in Love Anymore?" (which was co-written with Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora). By the late '90s, Roberts had turned his attention to multimedia projects, including designing video games, computer graphics, artwork, and websites. ~ Tom Demalon, All Music Guide

Career

Roberts was the guitarist who played on Alice Cooper's Constrictor and Raise Your Fist and Yell and their respective tours. He is the man responsible for Alice's metal years in the late '80s as he co-wrote nearly every track from those albums. Just by being on stage, he was a part of the show with his huge physique and rocket shooting guitars.

After "Raise Your Fist", Kane released his first solo album, "Kane Roberts", which featured Alice lyrics on 'Full Pull'. He then guested on Trash , playing guitar on "Bed Of Nails". He then released a second solo album Saints and Sinners.

While he is primarily a guitar player, Roberts is also a singer as is evident on his solo projects. Saints and Sinners contained the Bon Jovi-penned "Does Anybody Really Fall In Love Anymore?", previously recorded by Cher as well.

He also played on the Bob Ezrin produced Count Three & Pray album by Berlin, and a Rod Stewart album. He helped on backing vocals on Steve Vai's "Sex & Religion"album. He also co-wrote "Take It Off" With Paul Stanley and Bob Ezrin which appeared on Kiss' Revenge Album.

He contributed to albums by Status Quo (Quo), Steve Vai (Sex & Religion) and Desmond Child (Discipline).

Roberts took a long hiatus from music after his second solo album, but returned in 1999 with a band called Phoenix Down, named for a life potion in the PlayStation video game Final Fantasy VII, one of Roberts' favorite games. Phoenix Down recorded only one album, entitled Under A Wild Sky. Fans of both say that much of the record is inspired by the game.

After several years away from the music industry, working in graphic arts and as a video game programmer, Roberts began work on a new album, Touched, in 2006. According to his website kaneroberts.com it is not yet available.
