Treasure of the Doers of Good Deeds(Arabic: Kanz al-Ummal fi sunan al-aqwal wa'l af`al is a known 8 volume set Islamic hadith collection, collected by Islamic Scholar Ala'Uddin Ali al-Muttaqi ibn Hisam-Uddin al-Hindi, Al Muttaqi was born 888AH, CE 1472 in Burhanpur which is a town situated in modern day Southern Madhya Pardesh on the banks of the river Tapti, India. Ali al-Muttaqi writes in his autobiography that when I was eight years old, it occurred to my father to enroll me in the service of Sheikh Bajan. The Sheikh instructed me in sama and Sheikh Abd-al-Raheem Bajan taught me adhkar. Ali al- Muttaqi soon after earned his living as a scribe. He travelled to different regions of Hindustan and travelled to Multan to meet Sheikh Hisam-Uddin al-Muttaqi and stayed under his guardianship, here he was instructed in Tasawwuf . Ali al- Muttaqi then travelled to Makkah and stayed in the company of Abu-al-Hasan al-Bakry al-Siddiqi, from whom he acquired knowledge of hadith and Tasawwuf . Ali al- Muttaqi wrote some of his early works in Makkah. Ali al-Muttaqi also studied with the famous scholar of hadith Sheikh Shihabuddin Ahmed bin Hajar al-Makki. Ali al-Muttaqi returned twice to India to Gujarat which was ruled by Mahmud Shah who was an admirer of the Sheikh. Ali al-Muttaqi ‘s major work is Kanz al-Ummal regarding which his teacher Abu-al-Hasan al-Bakry al-Siddiqi says : “ Al Suyooti has done a great favor upon the entire world by writing al-Jami’ al-Sagheer and Ali al-Muttaqi has done a great service to al-Suyooti by compiling and arranging his work of al-Jami’ al-Sagheer “. The eminent Ahl-i Hadith religious scholar Nawab Siddiq Hasan Khan of Bhopal says regarding Sheikh Ali Muttaqi : “I have read and studied the works of Sheikh Ali Muttaqi , his works are very beneficial and informative and complete.” The works of Sheikh Ali al-Muttaqi: 1. Kanz al-Ummal , this is his most famous work. This work is printed. 2. Talkhees al-Bayan, this book is regarding the Mahdi of the last time. 3. Matla’ al-Gayah, it is a summary of Ibn al-Atheer’s Al-Nihayah fi Ghareeb al-Ahadith. A manuscript of this was available in the Berlin Library. 4. Ghayat al- Kamal fi Bayan-e-Afdhal-al-‘Amaml , a copy of it is in the Dar-ul-uloom library of Peshawar , a copy also exists in Institute of Oriental Manuscripts Leningrad. 5. Al-Fusool- fi- Sharh-e- Jam’e –al-Usool, a hand written manuscript by Ali Muttaqi is in the collections of Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Public Library 6. Jawam’-e-Kalim-fi-al-Mawadhi’ wal Hikam, manuscripts of this work is available in many Indian collections also in Paris, Berlin, and al-Azhar. 7. Al-Ahadith al-Mutwatirah, a manuscript is available Raza Library Rampur, India. 8. Al-Rutbah-al-Fakhirah, this is in tasawwuf. 9. Tabyeen-al-Tareeq, tasawwuf. 10. Al-Hukm-al-‘Erfaniyah, tasawwuf. 11. Al-Burhan-al-Jaley –fi- Ma’rifat –al-Waliy. Other books by the Sheikh Ali Muttaqi are mentioned in the introduction of Kanz al-Ummal, a rare manuscript of the Sheikh is available in the Chester Beatty Library in Dublin Ireland. Sheikh Ali Muttaqi died in Makkah ((1567 CE/975 AH). He was buried in the Mu’alla graveyard.

This hadith book contains daeef (weak) ahadeeth as well. So, chain of narrators has to be analyzed in order to view the correct meaning.
