Kariba

• Location: Zimbabwe

Founded in 1957 as a camp for workers building the Kariba Dam. The name may refer to the dam and mean 'Where the Waters have been trapped' or to the Kariba Gorge 'Where Animals have been trapped'. The building of the dam trapped thousands of wild animals which had to be relocated, and formed Lake Kariba.
