Mayer, Karl Friedrich Hartmann (Neckarbischofsheim, 1786-1870, Tübingen), a friend of L. Uhland from his student days at Tübingen, spent most of his life as a law officer in Ulm and Eßlingen (1818-24), in Waiblingen (1824-43), and finally in Tübingen (1843-57). Mayer wrote agreeable nature poetry, publishing Lieder in 1833 and Gedichte (an expansion of the Lieder) in 1840. He edited Lenau's letters (Nikolaus Lenaus Briefe, 1831) and published a memoir of Uhland, (Ludwig Uhland, seine Freunde und Zeitgenossen, 1867). G. Schwab and J. Kerner were among his friends.
