Karttula is a municipality of Finland.

It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the Northern Savonia region. The municipality has a population of 3,532 (31 March 2009)[2] and covers an area of 588.75 square kilometres (227.32 sq mi) of which 115.36 km2 (44.54 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 7.46 inhabitants per square kilometre (19.3 /sq mi).

The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

Karttula will be consolidated with the city of Kuopio in 2011. Kuopio will retain its name and coat of arms.[6]
