Katowice urban area also Upper Silesian urban area - urban area/urban agglomeration/conurbation in southern Poland. Located in the Silesian Voivodeship and small part of Lesser Poland Voivodeship. Katowice urban area is the largest urban area in Poland and one of the largest in European Union. Its population is about 2.7 million. Katowice urban area covers most population and area of Katowice metropolitan area (population 3,029,000 according to European Spatial Planning Observation Network[1] or 3,239,200 according to Ministry of Regional Development of Poland[2]) and is part of great Silesian metropolitan area (5,294,000 people)[1].
