Biography

Soft-voiced pop vocalist Kelly Sweet was born into a creative and musical family. In their home in Cape Cod, MA, she was raised by her father, a jazz pianist, and her artist mother. Learning to play notes on the piano before she could walk, Sweet sang live for an audience for the first time at age four at the Cape Cod Conservatory. After her parents divorced, she and her mother moved to Utah, where she began working harder honing her craft. Around age 14, Sweet and her mother rented out their home in Utah and began touring the western United States for two years, working to get Sweet her touring wings, as well as to get her name out. The hard work paid off and she ended up opening for Kenny Loggins in Las Vegas, and also sang the national anthem three different times before L.A. Lakers NBA games. She met up with producer, arranger, and songwriter Mark Portmann (Celine Dion) in the summer of 2004. The two began writing songs together, resulting in the turning point of her career into a professional musician, and she was eventually signed to Razor & Tie Records. Sweet's debut, We Are One, surfaced in March 2007. ~ Megan Frye, All Music Guide

Biography

Kelly Sweet was born into a musical household in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. She was raised on the jazz standards that were part of her father's repertoire, and learned musical notes soon after she could walk with her father's help. Her first public performance followed when she was 4 years old at the Cape Cod Conservatory.[2]

At the age of 7, following the divorce of her parents, Sweet and her mother moved to Kanab, Utah. Sweet began working regularly with a vocal coach and honed her skills as a performer by singing at state fairs, county festivals, and community theaters. In the summers of 2000 and 2001, Kelly studied musical theatre at Interlochen Center for the Arts[2] Summer Arts Camp in northern Michigan. Sweet and her mother eventually went on the road for two years, traveling back and forth between Kanab, Las Vegas and Los Angeles in search of performance opportunities. At 14, the singer opened for Kenny Loggins in Las Vegas. After hearing Sweet's demo CD, the Los Angeles Lakers NBA team booked Sweet to sing the national anthem on three occasions.

Sweet eventually met Grammy-nominated producer, arranger and songwriter Mark Portmann (Josh Groban, Celine Dion) in July 2004, and the two began working together shortly thereafter.

Sweet was featured in a USA Today article in July, 2006 on up-and-coming "serious female singers."[3]

In October, 2006, Sweet released an EP from which the songs "We Are One" and "Ready For Love" have been used on episodes of two daytime dramas, the NBC TV series Passions and the ABC TV series One Life to Live, respectively. "We Are One" was also featured on the NBC series Las Vegas in the spring of 2007.

Sweet opened for Paul Simon on tour in July and October, 2006, and also appeared at the New York Mets-St. Louis Cardinals NLCS baseball playoff game on October 17, 2006, where she sang an a cappella rendition of "God Bless America."

Her debut album, entitled We Are One, was released by the Razor and Tie label on March 6, 2007.

Kelly sang the National Anthem before the San Diego Padres baseball game against the New York Mets at Petco Park in San Diego, California on Tuesday, July 17, 2007.

Recently, remixes for Kelly's song "We Are One" were done by Dave Aude, Radioactive Sandwich, Matt Piso, and Electronathon.

Her cover of the Aerosmith classic "Dream On" was being played on adult contemporary format radio stations such as Hartford's WRCH, Manchester's WZID, and Seattle's KWJZ.
