Biography

The British saxophonist Ken Baker was active in his country's dance bands of the '30s, primarily Krakajax, a group and not a badly spelled version of the box with the prize in the bottom. Baker was a member of this ensemble in 1935 and 1936, recording selections such as "Spreadin' the Rhythm Around." The work of this group shows up on various nostalgia compilations including Tune In on the Bob label. This saxophonist should not be confused with several other players that share his name; he is no relation to the British trumpeter Kenny Baker, nor the saxophonist Ken "Big Papa" Baker who played for many years with John Lee Hooker. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide
