KEX (1190 AM, "NewsRadio 1190 KEX") is a class A clear channel AM radio station broadcasting from Portland, Oregon. As of 2005 it is owned by Clear Channel Communications and runs news/talk programming. Because KEX is a Class A station, KEX reaches most of Oregon, except for the Medford area and other locations far from Portland. At night, KEX reaches most of the western United States and Canada, at times as far east as Pocatello, Idaho.
KEX is one of America's oldest radio stations currently broadcasting, with an initial license date of December 23, 1926. Some sources show that the station may have originally started broadcasting on 670 kHz. On November 11, 1928, KEX started broadcasting on 1180 kHz under the terms of FCC General Order 40. On March 29, 1941, the station moved from 1180 kHz to 1190 kHz under the terms of NARBA. KEX is an active member of the Portland Area Radio Council. [1]
KEX is currently broadcasting in HD Radio.
KEX was the longtime flagship radio station of the Portland Trail Blazers of the NBA. This ended in 2007-08 when team owner Paul Allen decided to move the team to his co-owned Portland station KXTG, converted it to an all-sports format ("The Game") and succeeded KEX as the "voice of the Blazers."
Programming
The station airs several nationally syndicated programs hosted by such people as Rush Limbaugh, Dr. Laura Schlessinger, Mike Huckabee and Dave Ramsey. Weekend programming also includes the nationally syndicated radio show The Mutual Fund Show with Adam Bold.
KEX was the first station to give Mel Blanc a show. His Cobwebs & Nuts program debuted June 15, 1933 and ran Monday thru Saturday 11:00pm to midnight.
