Khurai City [खुरई शेहर ] {خوري شهرin urdu }(also pronounced as Kuraai 库赖) is a city and a municipality in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Presently, it is located in the Sagar District.

Geography

Khurai is located at 24°03′N 78°19′E / 24.05°N 78.32°E / 24.05; 78.32[1]. It has an average elevation of 436 metres (1430 feet). Khurai is a headquarters town in Sagar District, situated near its border with Vidisha District, Madhya Pradesh. It is about 26 km east of Udaypur and 53 km west of Sagar.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census[2], Khurai has a population of 31,887. Males constitute 57% of the population and females 43%. Khurai has an average literacy rate of 71%, higher than the national average of 59.5%.

Education

Four popular schools are Blue Bells H.Sec. English medium school Pt.K.C.Sharma HS Ex. School, Gurukul School and G.S.M.V.M Khurai, Holy Family Convent School, Sishu Mandir.


The town has a Polytechnic College and a Science & Arts College. Khurai also has a Jawahar Navodaya Vidhyalya.

Economy

Main business in khurai region is agriculture. Main crops grown here are wheat (sharbati), soyabean and gram. City is hub of making agriculture equipments like thraser, ploughs, seeding machines, trolleys. Many factories exist for them. The quality of soil in Khurai is very good and it is in black in colour so here a very good quality of wheat is produced . Most of the wheat transferred to Delhi and Mumbai hotels.

Tourism

Popular places to visit are "khan gol banglow", "Talliya Mandir", "Purana Quilla", "Talaab", "Gulshan-e-madeena Mosque", "Mahakali Mandir", "Pandit Ka Kuan", "Shehnai Garden", Dohela and Jain Temple in Gurukul (Lal Mandir). and just 20 minutes way from khurai to a beautiful place known as "DANKHEDI" a religious place and a river is passing through side of the temple,this place view is one of the most beautiful view in whole area.... go and feel the look......

Railways

The City has 2 railway stations. The Khurai Railway Station is the main railway station which is well connected by rail route to Delhi, Mumbai, Howrah, Puri, Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Itarsi, Katni. While the other station is located at Khurai Sumreri which halts only passenger and local trains. The nearest railway junction is Bina Junction 22 km away which connects Khurai to other major cities of India.

Roadways

Khurai is well connected to Sagar, Bina, Bhopal, Indore by road.

There are daily buses for Bhopal, Indore, Jhansi, Sagar and Bina.

Airways

Nearest International Airport is Bhopal Airport and Domestic airport is located at Gwalior.

Medical

Health system of the city is poorly developed which solely depends on the poorly equipped govt hospital and a Swedish mission hospital which once upon a time was known for its quality service it provided to the patient.

Political

Khurai was a reserved assembly seat previously but after delimitation it has gone for general category. Parties like Congress (INC), BJP.
